Michael Douglas is retiring after a legendary 60-year career in film

An unrepeatable actor who has left us unforgettable films.

The film industry has been established for more than a century, and in all this time all kinds of legends have been forged; one of the ones that shines brightest is that of the Douglas family. From Kirk Douglas to Michael Douglas, an unrepeatable father and son duo, which we have been able to continue enjoying until now with the second one. A 60-year career of giving it all is coming to an end, as announced at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic.

Michael Douglas attended the event to present a restored version of the mythical film One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, directed by Czech director Miloš Forman, in which Douglas participated. It was there that he announced the end of his career.

The legendary actor says goodbye

“I realized I had to stop. I had been working pretty hard for almost 60 years, and I did not want to be one of those people who dropped dead on the set. I have no real intentions of going back,” Michael Douglas declared at a press conference. The actor has not worked since 2022 by choice, and unless he gets a script he thinks is exceptional, he may never act again.

Douglas bids farewell with a respected and award-winning career over the years, with an Oscar for best actor for ‘Wall Street’ in 1988 and also for best film for the aforementioned ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,’ of which he was a producer.
