Michael Keaton Says Tim Burton is Largely Responsible for Creating the MCU and DCU
The actor played Batman under the direction of Tim Burton between 1989 and 1992.
In the midst of promoting ‘Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice′, Michael Keaton recalled his time as Batman alongside Tim Burton when both were interviewed by GQ magazine, a dialogue in which he pointed out that the director is largely responsible for the creation of the MCU and DCU. “Tim deserves enormous credit. He changed everything. I can’t necessarily say this, but there’s a strong possibility there is no Marvel Universe, there is no DC Universe, without Tim Burton.”
Michael Keaton starred in ‘Batman’ and ‘Batman Returns,’ both very successful and beloved by comic book fans, as these films revitalized a genre that had fallen on hard times due to failures such as ‘Superman IV: The Quest for Peace’ and ‘Howard the Duck’.

Before the shooting of “Batman”, when it was known that the actor would play Batman, Tim Burton received more than 50,000 signatures at Warner Bros. for the choice of the actor, because for many fans Michael Keaton was not linked to the world of comics, but the confidence in the interpreter of ‘Birdman’ was blind.
“I love Michael because he has a certain energy,” Burton emphasized. “That’s why I wanted him to be in Batman, because you just look in his eyes and he seems intelligent, scary, crazy, everything all at once.”
Burton’s confidence in making a dark, gothic feature film resulted in 1989′s ‘Batman’ grossing over $411,348,924 worldwide and $40,489,746 in United States, earning critical acclaim and a 1990 Academy Award for Best Art Direction.
