Minecraft: All about Sniffers | History, seeds, and everything you need to know
Get to know the Sniffer, the new Minecraft Mob that is coming to the game really soon and that is capable of digging up new special seeds.
Minecraft players are no strangers to a wide variety of creatures that roam the blocky lands and that each act either as enemies or as parts of the ecosystem they inhabit. But they’ve never seen anything like the Sniffer.
The Sniffer is the winner of the Minecraft Live 2022 Mob Community Vote, beating the Rascal and the Tuff Golem as the mob with the most votes from players that wished to see it in the game. Well, almost one year after, this new creature made its way to the game with update 1.20. But apart from working entirely differently from every other creature, it’s not actually available to be found in the main game.
Here you’ll find everything you need to know about the Sniffer, from what it is to how to find one, as well as its abilities and why you might want to get one for yourself.
Meet the Sniffer
As mentioned before, the Sniffer is the newest Mob to be added into Minecraft with patch 1.20. It is described by Mojang as an “ancient mob”, a creature that was considered extinct for many years and one that you must bring back to life by unearthing its eggs from deep underground and hatching them yourself.
Once hatched, this creature is actually pretty massive. It’s of such large size that your character will actually be dwarfed by them in comparison. Like a mixture of a camel, a bison, and a platypus, the Sniffer lives up to its name by using its huge nose to sniff out plants and seeds, and digging them for you to pick up.
The development of the creature has mentioned that these are special plants and seeds, meaning that there’s still a lot to discover about them, but we’ll find out more about those once the creature is implemented properly into the game.
How to find a Sniffer
The main problem with this new mob is the fact that they’re not actually in the full game right now. The creature is coming in Bedrock Beta crunches, previews of future updates, and Java Snapshot in the near future. As of right now, you can actually hatch them in the game through the Creative Mode, although it is an incomplete version of the full mob. This means that currently you can only find its eggs and hatch them, and admire their size and cuteness.
Now, how do you actually get a Sniffer in the game? You need to find a Sniffer Egg, which is typically hidden inside Suspicios Sand blocks within a Warm Ocean Ruins location. Once you find an a Sniffer Egg, and place it in the world, it’ll hatch in around 20 real time minutes. You can also place it on top of a Moss block, which acts as a sort of nest causing the Egg to hatch in half the time.
Once you do, a baby Snifflet will pop out! Just as with any other animal, you just need to feed it and take care of it, and eventually it’ll grow into an adult Sniffer.
