Netflix

Minecraft is being turned into a series by Netflix

Mojang’s work is one of the most important video games of all time, and it continues to mutate in the midst of its 15th-anniversary celebration.

Minecraft

It’s just a 20-second teaser in which the Netflix logo stands like a 2001 monolith in the lands of Minecraft, surrounded by lava waterfalls. The description includes the following revealing message: “This just happened: The best selling game of all time & the biggest streamer in the world are teaming up to bring you a brand NEW Minecraft Netflix animated series!”

The news adds to the celebration of the 15th anniversary of Minecraft, one of the most important and defining video games in the history of the medium.

Minecraft, the game that brings everyone and everything together

That sentence you just read above expands in a thousand directions. Minecraft unites all generations because it is a game for older people outside the environment, it unites all ages because it unleashes the creativity of children, teenagers, and adults. It unites all elements of expression and knowledge. After all, it is easily established in museums and exhibitions, because it is used by schools and universities. It is the subject of academic studies, of jubilant conversations between architects, philosophers, psychologists, engineers, physicists, and mathematicians. Minecraft permeates the culture in its various layers, and it is a symbol assimilated into pop culture and the place where dreams come true.

Beyond Story Mode, WildBrain’s animation studio has the difficult task of doing justice to a work that is already larger than life. This, considering that we are in a time that will be remembered as the beginning of the golden age of video game series adaptations. Fallout, Cyberpunk, The Last of Us, Arcane, Castlevania... This is no longer a coincidence, and Netflix, home to some of these great adaptations, including the best of them (LOL!), must commit to living up to them. Will they succeed? Let’s hope for one more step forward in this unprecedented era of bonanza.
