We will not have to wait long to enjoy a new anime based on a work by Eiichiro Oda, the creator of ‘One Piece’. ‘Monsters’ will arrive on Netflix on January 21, a new release related to the Japanese creator who is living in a remarkable moment with all kinds of releases around his character. Along with the ‘live-action’ series, the remake in development, and the premiere of the new anime saga, there is no better time than now to be a follower of Oda.

What is ‘Monsters’? It is a one-shot manga written by Eiichiro Oda in 1994, which is part of the ‘One Piece’ canon, although it was never confirmed until the Thriller Bark Saga and the SBS of the 47th volume of the manga, published in 2007. ‘Monsters’ puts us in the role of young Ryuma, a samurai from the Wano country who is an old acquaintance to all ‘One Piece’ fans, although his story takes place 400 years before the beginning of the series in which his world is set.

‘Monsters’, the manga set in the world of ‘One Piece’ before ‘One Piece’ existed

‘Monsters’ is part of ‘Wanted!’, a collection of five short stories published in Shonen Jump magazine from 1993 to 1996 and collected in this book published in 1998. The first is ‘Wanted!’, a debut work that went no further; ‘God’s Gift for the Future’, which tells the story of Bran, an incomparable pickpocket who wants to have a normal life and stop stealing, but cannot; ‘Ikki Yako’, which tells the story of a young Buddhist monk who wanders from village to village in search of his master.

The last two stories are the aforementioned “Monsters” and finally in “Wanted!” we have “Romance Dawn V.2′, a different version of the beginning of “One Piece” that was mostly not included in the final version of the work.
