Mortal Kombat 1 announces Megan Fox as the bloody Nitara

NetherRealm studios welcomes Megan Fox to Mortal Kombat 1, where she’ll be the face and voice of one of the bloodiest fighters on the roster.

Update:
Mortal Kombat 1 announces Megan Fox as the bloody Nitara

The Mortal Kombat series hasn’t been shy about celebrity castings for their many characters, especially during its last few entries, and now there’s one more coming in MK1: Megan Fox has just been revealed as the face and voice of Nitara, a returning character from the franchise’s past.

As can be seen in the trailer above, Megan Fox will lend both her appearance and her voice to the vampire fighter, giving fans a look at a role that is weirdly fitting for the actress, as it’s similar to her character from the cult horror classic, Jennifer’s Body, where she played a succubus-like monster that was typically covered in the blood of her victims.

On the other hand Nitara’s return is another surprise for long-time players of Mortal Kombat, as she debuted back in the 3D era of the series in Deadly Alliance, and then got left behind after the reboot post-Armageddon. She’s joined in her unexpected return by characters like Havik (Mortal Kombat Deception) and Ashrah (Mortal Kombat Armageddon), who are finally getting their time in the arena alongside other beloved characters like Reptile, Smoke, Rain, and many others.

Mortal Kombat and celebrity fighters, history in the making

Megan Fox is not the only confirmed celebrity to lend her likeness for the game. While previous titles have had their own batch of big Hollywood names in the ring, Mortal Kombat 1 finally fulfills the dream of having Jean Claude Van Damme in the game. According to Ed Boon, co-creator of the series, they originally wanted to make a game adaptation of the movie Bloodsport, a film starring Van Damme from the late 80s. The Belgian actor’s refusal meant turning the project around, a change that would end up creating the Mortal Kombat brand and Johnny Cage as a character clearly reminiscent of Van Damme.

The arrival of Van Damme is a historic milestone for Mortal Kombat, a series that has already seen licenses such as Terminator, Rambo, RoboCop, Alien, and many more. The Belgian legend of action cinema finally lets himself be loved by Mortal Kombat fans.
