Mortal Kombat 1 reveals its plans for Year 2 DLC, including Conan the Barbarian, a Terminator, Ghostface and more

The story and character roster of Mortal Kombat 1 is getting expanded in Year 2 with the Khaos Reigns DLC, including some perfect guests.

Mortal Kombat 1 is ready for a whole new year of fresh content for the fighting game, not content with already filling its roster of characters with some of the most brutal, sadistic, and powerful superheroes of modern comics. And it seems like NetherRealm Studios already had big plans underway, as they just revealed what players can expect for Year 2 during San Diego Comic-Con.

Ed Boon, NetherRealm’s own CCO and co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchise, took the stage at SDCC 2024 to show off their upcoming DLC for Mortal Kombat 1, titled “Khaos Reigns.” This new expansion will continue the story mode of the game, building upon what was shown during the base game to go even krazier than ever before.

As you can see from the trailer above, there is plenty more coming to the game aside from the expanded story. For example, three new versions of famous ninjas from the series, two of them are vastly different from what fans are used to, but also three exciting guest characters that are simply perfect for Mortal Kombat. This is the complete list of new characters coming with Year 2:

  • Cyrax
  • Sektor
  • Noob Saibot
  • Terminator T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgment Day
  • Ghostface from Scream
  • Conan the Barbarian

Yes, while Cyrax and Sektor are already in the game as Kameo Fighters, these playable versions are not the same. To start, they are both female humans, and it appears as though they’re not entirely cybernetic, but rather wearing power armor. Their new movesets are swift and lethal, and they look extremely fun and frenetic to play as. Alongside them, Noob Saibot is making a return, with plot implications that point towards Sub-Zero’s demise.

But as if all of that wasn’t enough, the trailer also ends with a very good look at a returning fan-favorite feature that’s been missing from the series for decades now: Animalities are making a glorious and gory return, allowing every character to transform into a different animal or beast in order to mutilate and end their enemies in place of a “regular” fatality.

What content was in Mortal Kombat 1 Year 1?

The first Kombat Pack of the game is a season pass included with the Premium and the Collector’s Edition that can also be purchased separately for $39.99. It includes all of the following:

  • Omni-Man (Fighter, villain of ‘Invincible’ on Prime Video)
  • Homelander (Fighter, villain of ‘The Boys’ on Prime Video)
  • Peacemaker (Fighter, protagonist of his own DC series on Max)
  • Ermac (Fighter, first introduced in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3)
  • Quan Chi (Fighter, first introduced in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero)
  • Takeda (Fighter, first introduced in Mortal Kombat X)
  • Tremor (Kameo, first introduced in Mortal Kombat: Special Forces)
  • Chameleon (Kameo, first introduced in the Nintendo 64 version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy)
  • Janet Cage (Kameo, first introduced in Mortal Kombat 1)
  • Mavado (Kameo, first introduced in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance)
  • Ferra (Kameo, first introduced in Mortal Kombat X)

It’s very probable that we’ll see even more Kameo Fighters join the fray alongside Year 2′s new characters.
