Update:

Humans have not traveled to the Moon since December 19, 1972, the day the Apollo 17 mission took four people to Earth’s only natural satellite—two of whom, Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan, were fortunate enough to set foot on its surface. In a matter of days, NASA will try again as part of the Artemis II mission, designed to send four astronauts (Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen) to orbit the Moon. This is the first crewed mission to the Moon in over 50 years and is very important for the future, as the goal is to fly around the Moon and return to Earth aboard the Orion spacecraft, which will be launched by the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket. We’ll tell you when it is and how to watch the launch live.

When is the Artemis II launch?

If all goes according to plan, the launch window will open today, Wednesday, April 1, at 6:24 p.m. ET. Here are the times when the launch will be visible across the United States

  • 6:24 pm ET
  • 5:24 pm CT
  • 3:24 pm PT
