Neither Intel nor M1: Apple’s new MacBook uses the chip... from the iPhone!
The company would go for a more accessible, efficient and youthful model to attract new users to its ecosystem.

Apple could be about to break one of its most traditional barriers: entry-level pricing. According to new reports, the company plans to launch a budget MacBook powered by the same processor that will be used in the iPhone 16 Pro, the Apple A18 Pro. This move would mark a strategic shift to attract users who see Macs as exclusive and unattainable products.
Since Apple adopted its own Apple Silicon chips, the autonomy and performance of its notebooks have improved significantly. Now, with this new model, they will seek to bring that efficiency to more affordable equipment. By leaving aside the powerful M chips, the new MacBook would rely on a mobile SoC, which would reduce costs without sacrificing the user experience thanks to the optimization of macOS.

A MacBook with an iPhone heart
The new laptop would have a 13-inch screen and would be part of a different line than the MacBook Air. To reinforce its youthful and accessible character, it would arrive in vibrant colors such as pink or yellow, similar to what Apple has done with the iPhone SE or XR.
This device is expected to debut in late 2025 or early 2026, and although official figures are not yet known, analysts suggest that Apple plans to produce between 5 and 7 million units, clearly targeting a mass audience.
Thanks to the shared architecture between iPhone and Mac chips, performance and compatibility would not be an issue. In fact, the A18 Pro rivals the M1 chip in power, more than enough for everyday tasks and multimedia consumption.
With this move, Apple would not only seek to compete on price, but also to open the door of the macOS ecosystem to millions of new users.
