Netflix: Everything announced during the Drop 01 animation showcase
Netflix Drop 01, a new showcase by the streaming platform that focused entirely on its upcoming animated projects, has left us with quite a bit of hype.
With Castlevania: Nocturne rapidly approaching its release date, Netflix decided that it was about time that fans all over the world got a taste of all of the amazing animated shows that are making their way to the streaming platform in the coming months. And what a lineup it is, from original series to video game adaptations and spin-offs of beloved franchises.
Dubbed “Drop 01″, this new Netflix showcase left us with a fair amount of trailers, and even began the show with extended clips of Castlevania: Nocturne’s first three episodes. Aside from that, we got to see long-awaited reveals of other series like Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Masters of the Universe: Revolution, Sonic Prime’s Season 3, and more. Take a look:
Netflix is making a Devil May Cry anime
It’s been a rumor for many years, ever since the success of the Castlevania anime adaptation on Netflix, but now it’s finally a reality: Adi Shankar, Capcom, and Netflix have joined forces to create an adaptation of the hack-and-slash action franchise. Produced by Studio Mir, we still have no premiere date, but we do get just a little taste of what to expect with a look at a young Dante playing around during a fight.
Sonic Prime is back
Surprisingly, Sonic Prime has been a huge success for the streamer, and this new look at the upcoming third season of the show lets fans finally see Sonic and Shadow work together to take on an evil version of Tails himself, Nine, who is aiming to use the Shattered Paradox Prism shards to create a new universe.
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
Of all the things we could have expected, seeing a spinoff of Blood Dragon (Itself a spinoff of Far Cry) in the form of an animated show was definitely not one of them. Announced during the summer Ubisoft Forward showcase, we now know it’ll release on October 19.
An unexpected samurai revenge series
Blue Eye Samurai, a new netflix series about a samurai seeking vengeance against those who have wronged her, is coming soon. With an impressive voice cast and an unprecedented story dealing with mixed race, tradition, and lots and lots of gorey action, it’s one to keep an eye on. The series starts streaming on November 3.
“Eh, the books were better”
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the animated adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s legendary graphic novel (and subsequent film adaptation by Edgar Wright) is reuniting the film’s cast to re-do the entire thing on Netflix! And now we have a new clip for the series, which reveals that instead of being an Amazon Delivery girl, Ramona Flowers now delivers DVD’s for Netflix. The animated series begins on November 17.
Tomb Raider is getting an adaptation too!
Titled Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, this new animated series is apparently part of the same universe shown in the past few game titles of the series, as several characters from the games can be seen in a picture Lara is holding. What it’ll be about is still a mystery, but Netflix says the show will premiere in 2024.
By the power of Grayskull!
He-Man is coming back, specifically the reboot created by Kevin Smith. Masters of the Universe: Revolution is a continuation of the grittier version of the hero. There is currently no official release date yet.
