Update:

Entertainment is, unfortunately, becoming more expensive. Earlier this year, Spotify announced a price increase for its subscription tiers, and now it’s Netflix’s turn to roll out higher prices across its plans.

According to a report from Variety, all three Netflix tiers are seeing price hikes. The ad-supported Standard plan increases from $7.99 to $8.99 per month. The Standard plan rises from $17.99 to $19.99. Finally, the Premium plan—ad-free, with support for four devices and home-based usage—jumps from $24.99 to $26.99.

Netflix continues with strong numbers

This marks the third time Netflix has raised subscription prices within a five-year period, following increases in 2022, 2023, and now 2025. Apparently, the 23 million new subscribers added last year were not enough to offset rising costs. Even so, despite these increases and the inevitable churn that follows, Netflix has managed to remain financially strong amid a series of controversial decisions. Just last year, the company reported $45.2 billion in revenue, a 16% increase compared to the previous year.

In recent months, Netflix had also been linked to a potential acquisition of Warner Bros. for a reported $82.7 billion. That deal ultimately did not move forward, with Paramount Skydance emerging instead. As part of that situation, Netflix reportedly received a $2.8 billion deal-breakup fee from Paramount. At the time, Netflix reassured subscribers that “nothing is changing today,” addressing concerns that a major acquisition could trigger yet another price increase due to an expanded content catalog. As it turns out, the price hike was coming regardless—deal or no deal.
