Netflix unveils ‘The One Piece’ first teaser, the ambitious anime remake by WIT Studio

“Wealth, fame, power… the man who attained everything the world had to offer Gold Roger, King of the Pirates…”

Update:

This morning, Netflix, in collaboration with WIT Studio, unveiled the first teaser for the ‘One Piece’ remake, titled The One Piece.’ The teaser, which is just under a minute long, gives us a first glimpse of what this animated series will be like, and you can watch it below:

The teaser is quite short, using the opening narration from the very beginning of ‘One Piece’ to call everyone to adventure. Since this is a remake, you can see changes from the original Toei Animation series, which began in the late 1999… and you can certainly tell that nearly 30 years have passed. With smoother animation and 3D elements, the animation produced by WIT Studio breathes new life into these early episodes.

A New Take on the Straw Hat Pirates’ Adventure

This adaptation has been in development for some time now, having been originally announced in late 2023. The goal of this version is clear: to update the series with top-notch animation while making it more accessible to a new audience without losing sight of longtime fans.

The goal here is for this adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s work to distill the essence of the current anime experience, moving through certain scenes much more quickly. This first season will consist of 7 episodes, each 42 minutes long, and will adapt a total of 50 chapters of the manga up to the Baratie arc, making it much more accessible compared to the anime’s current run of over 1,100 episodes.

Wit Studio is one of Japan’s most renowned animation studios, with notable works such as ‘Attack on Titan,’ ‘Vinland Saga,’ and ‘Ranking of Kings,’ among others. It is now taking on the most anticipated remake in modern anime, a project that is poised to become a resounding success.

For now, ‘The One Piece’ will arrive on Netflix in February 2027.
