New 'Pirates of the Caribbean' movie already has favorite actor to replace Johnny Depp
The sixth installment of the saga will be a reboot without the original characters, written by the showrunner of ‘The Last of Us’.
That Disney has greenlit a new ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie is already an open secret in Hollywood. That the script was written by Craig Mazin (showrunner of ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘Chernobyl’ series) is also an open secret. It was even known that the project will do without Johnny Depp and Captain Jack Sparrow because it will be a reboot of the saga without the original characters. But stay tuned, because another detail of the project has just been made public: the name of the favorite actor to star in it.
According to The DisInsider, the name that’s gaining more and more traction in the Disney offices is that of Austin Butler, who was on everyone’s lips a few years ago when he was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as Elvis in the singer’s biopic. Since then we have seen him in ‘The Masters of the Air’ and most recently as the terrifying villain of ‘Dune’, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.
Butler’s name has been leaked and some statements from the actor have appeared, assuring that his favorite Disneyland attraction is ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and assuring that it evokes an aroma that he could smell all day long. What do you think? Would you see him as a character like Orlando Bloom in the first movies or rather as Johnny Depp’s successor? Or maybe neither? He looks like Guybrush Threepwood to us...
How many Pirates of the Caribbean movies are there?
The new Pirates of the Caribbean project would be the sixth film in the saga and the first in more than 5 years. They are all available on Disney+ and their release order is the same as the premiere order.
Let’s hope the quality of the next movie doesn’t follow the trend of the previous ones (in free fall and without a parachute), although if it was weird to stop seeing Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley in the saga, we don’t even want to tell you how much we’ll miss Johnny Depp.
