Nintendo is suing PocketPair for 10 million Yen claiming infringement on capturing Pokémon
The Nintendo lawsuit against PocketPair for Palworld has specified the patent they’ve infringed on, which centers around the way Pokémon are captured.
The Palworld controversy continues, one of the most popular games of 2024. The open world adventure, survival and monster capture developed by Pocketpair has been in the eye of the hurricane for several months due to its, since both Nintendo and The Pokémon Company decided to sue the Japanese studio claiming that some of its patents had been infringed.
Pocketpair has expressed their surprise upon seeing the complaint, ensuring that they did not even know anything about the type of patents they had allegedly infringed. But now things have changed, since they themselves have made the first details of the matter public. 10 million yen is the amount being demanded by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company from the studio as compensation.
It is the sum of two different demands, which comes close to about $66,000 at the current exchange rate, to which one must add expenses incurred by the legal process and its dela. Going into details about the patents, the most significant is one that refers to the fact that a character throws an object to catch a monster and it becomes his, something that obviously fits perfectly with the use of Poké Balls in the Pokémon saga, especially in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a title in which this mechanic is fully appreciated in real-time.
Palworld is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
