Nintendo sues Genki over unauthorized Switch 2 mockup reveal
Nintendo takes legal action against Genki for Switch 2 leaks at CES 2025.

Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against Genki, accusing the accessory manufacturer of trademark infringement, false advertising, and unfair competition. The lawsuit stems from Genki’s unauthorized showcase of a Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, months before the console’s official reveal.

Nintendo’s claims against Genki
According to court documents, Nintendo alleges that Genki:
- Used Nintendo’s trademarks without permission to market Switch 2 accessories.
- Falsely advertised its products as compatible with the unreleased console.
- Created unauthorized mockups of the Switch 2, misleading consumers.
Nintendo is seeking damages, a permanent ban on Genki’s Switch-related products, and the destruction of all infringing items.

Genki’s response to the lawsuit
Genki has acknowledged the lawsuit, stating that they are taking it seriously and working with legal counsel. While they haven’t denied the allegations, they maintain that they are an independent company focused on gaming accessories.
Despite the legal battle, Genki is continuing preparations to fulfill orders and showcase new products at PAX East.
Genki responded publicly to Nintendo's lawsuit. We don't know how this will play out, but I don't think anyone is surprised Nintendo took this step based on Genki's actions before Switch 2 was officially revealed.

Potential consequences for Genki
If Nintendo wins the case, Genki could face:
- A ban on selling Switch 2 accessories.
- Financial penalties, including handing over profits earned from the alleged infringement.
- A damaged reputation, affecting future business opportunities.
Nintendo is known for aggressively protecting its intellectual property, and this lawsuit could set a precedent for how companies handle early leaks and unauthorized product reveals. As the Switch 2’s official launch approaches, all eyes will be on how this legal battle unfolds.
