Nintendo Switch 2 manages to beat PS5 numbers but lags behind the first Switch

Nintendo’s next-gen console was unveiled in a trailer, and a new Mario Kart has already been confirmed.

Nintendo Switch 2

Rumors, leaks, and pages of information in the media. The announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 took longer than expected, but the Japanese company has finally opened the door. Last Thursday, January 16, the networks began to make noise. Some authoritative voices pointed out that the announcement was imminent, something that finally happened after 8:00 am. The Japanese published the first trailer of the console, a video focused only on the hardware - except for the images of the next Mario Kart. Two days later, the trailer has reached fantastic numbers on YouTube.

Four years ago, PlayStation unveiled its current generation machine, the PS5. The announcement trailer garnered 13.3 million views on YouTube in just two days, a lower number than the Switch 2 did in the same period. How many did it get? A total of 17 million views. While these numbers are impressive, they are slightly lower than the original Switch’s 19.5 million views.

New Nintendo Direct on April 2nd

Unlike the Nintendo Switch, then codenamed NX, the new console was practically leaked. Mockups had been shared and one of the replicas was present at CES 2025. Real images of the new Joy-Con were also leaked from a Chinese factory. However, there is still a lot of information to be shared, as neither the games nor the price and release date have been announced.

Nintendo has invited gamers to a Nintendo Direct that will take place on April 2nd. It will be then that the last unknowns will be concretized, although they have not yet announced the specific time.
