Nintendo won’t release a ‘Switch 2′ before April 2024

The president of Nintendo has stated that the company doesn’t have any plans to release a successor to the Switch or any other hardware before March 31, 2024.

Update:
Nintendo Switch

Rumors are the order of the day and the desire for a Switch 2 sneaks every year in our letters to Santa, but until now a new Nintendo console continues to postpone its arrival. The company has just presented the annual financial report to its shareholders and, in the subsequent press conference, Shuntaro Furukawa himself, president of the big N, assured that there will be no new hardware before March 31, 2024.

There were some who even considered passing up on The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom to play it with better performance on a hypothetical new machine. Furukawa also admits to being aware of console sales declining, but intends to reach an extra 15 million in the next financial year. Taking into account that they just reached 125 million units sold, Nintendo Switch would be around 140 million if they succeed, which would place the platform 15 million users behind the Nintendo DS and PS2, the best selling consoles in history.

The Nintendo Switch came out on March 3, 2017 (its Lite model in 2019 and the OLED in 2021), so that would already be 7 years of life for the console. Although many have the feeling that it completed its cycle a long time ago and that they are stretching it as much as possible, the truth is that its journey is quite adapted to the usual deadlines of the company. Wii U, for example, was active between 2012 and 2017 (that is, 5 years and that was not supported by sales), and with Wii it was another 6 years (2006-2012). Just take a look at the release calendar it has for 2023:
