Not everything was good: The worst movies of 2024, sorted from best to worst
2024 has been a great year for cinema, but there are movies that have passed with more shame than glory.
After the top 10 best films of 2024, it was inevitable to continue with its counterpart. It has not been a bad year of cinema, far from it, but there are a number of films that if you can avoid seeing them, so much the better. For the list of the worst movies of the year we have relied on critics, specialized sites, and, of course, our opinion. Here is the list of the worst movies of the year 2024, ordered from best to worst:
‘The Crow’
Our top 10 kicks off with ‘The Crow’, which has the dubious honor of not having any positive reviews on FilmAffinity. The movie is a remake of the 1994 cult film of the same name, starring Brandon Lee, who was killed by an accidental gunshot on the set. The movie follows a couple, Eric Draven and Shelly Webster, who are brutally murdered. They sacrifice themselves to save their love and set out to get revenge on whoever did this to them. The critics were not kind to the movie and neither was the box office.
‘Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey 2’
This movie is the sequel to ‘Winnie-the-Pooh: Honey and Blood’, an attempt to plunge the adorable world of our favorite bear into absolute violent darkness. In this movie, after the events of the first movie, the group leaves a bloody trail wherever they go. As always, there were people who liked it, but the idea of this universe is unnecessary enough to develop it.
‘Megalopolis’
It hurts a lot to include the master Francis Ford Coppola, author of ‘The Godfather’, in a list of the worst movies of the year, but the director’s megalomania was too much this time. With a wide variety of opinions, we are in the more pessimistic ‘Megalopolis’ camp. The movie is about an architect who wants to completely rebuild New York City. The script jumps around all the time and doesn’t lead the movie to anything in particular, except for the odd shots and some of the acting.
‘Red One’
‘Red One’ reaches this peak in extremis after being released only a few weeks ago. These were enough to confirm what was already expected: the movie doesn’t work. With the premise of rescuing Santa Claus after he has been kidnapped, the movie is a comedy with Dwayne Johnson (The Rock), Chris Evans and a J.K. Simmons who slaps you around and changes your zip code. A bit of a mess all around.
‘Argylle’
‘Argyle’ was released at the beginning of the year and it was known from the start that it would be present in such lists. Trying to make a movie in the style of ‘Kingsman’, the film tells how fantasy meets reality when the protagonist, a writer, comes across an espionage network similar to the one described in the novels. It did not receive many positive reviews and did not do well at the box office.
‘Mother of the Bride’
The highlight of “Mother of the Bride” is seeing Brooke Shields, the most photographed woman in history, in a leading role again. From there, the movie copies the plot and narrative of thousands of movies produced today, with the most repetitive humorous gags.
‘Borderlands’
The adaptation of the video game of the same name did not turn out as well as Eli Roth, mythical supporting actor in Quentin Tarantino’s films, thought it would. ‘Borderlands’ is carried solely and exclusively by Cate Blanchett, in addition to the spaghetti western references. With a cast that does more harm than good and a story that is not very well told, the movie is lost in the abyss of forgettable movies.
‘Beautiful Wedding’
‘Beautiful Wedding’ is the movie that nobody asked for, but it was made. It’s the sequel to ‘Wonderful Disaster’, which was released last year as a kind of ‘It Happened One Night’ but a lot worse. In this one, Travis and Abby wake up drunk and discover that they’ve gotten married, so they decide to celebrate in style.
‘Uglies’
‘Uglies’ is listed as one of the worst movies of the year by specialized websites. The synopsis is simple: in the future, a teenager sets out to find her missing boyfriend before undergoing mandatory plastic surgery. Aimed at a young audience, the movie fails to appeal to the younger generations.
‘Madame Web’
‘Madame Web’ is the winner of the worst movie of the year for the MeriStation editorial staff. The movie was the last nail in the coffin of Sony’s Spider-Man universe, which ended with ‘Kraven the Hunter’. This is a movie made without love, knowledge or interest, as Dakota Johnson rightly stated. It is also one of the worst Marvel and superhero movies in general.
