‘One Piece’ continues at its best in Elbaph, revealing new details about the mysterious Shanks
A sibling relationship as similar as it is different.
Eiichiro Oda is at the top of the manga and anime world, and thanks to the success of Netflix’s real-life adaptation, we could say the same in other areas of entertainment. The mangaka never ceases to amaze ‘One Piece’ fans, as the series reaches one of its most intense moments, with all kinds of revelations chapter after chapter in the Elbaph arc, making it worth all the decades of waiting to get there.
In this arc, the identity of Shamrock Figarland was revealed, removing all doubts about Shanks, or so we thought, as we learned of his twin brother and his title of high-ranking Tenryūbito as a member of one of the World Government’s 20 founding families. As leader of the God’s Knights, we saw him attempt to recruit Loki and eventually bring Elbaph under the control of the World Government, but chapter 1138 also revealed more about the past of a Shanks that continues to confuse many readers.
After feeling like he had cleared up all the doubts about Shanks in chapter 1138, Oda has managed to bring them back. Shamrock reveals to Loki that Shanks is his younger twin brother, who was separated from the Figarland family during the God Valley incident, but to the surprise of many, Shanks returned to Mary Geoise, though he chose to live as a pirate.
Shamrock does not hesitate to express his hatred for the surface world, clearly disappointed that his brother is not one of them. When did Shanks learn of his true heritage? It was probably Gol D. Roger himself who revealed it to him and then went off in search of his past. Will he still have a connection to his family? Now the doubts are back on the table for a character as mysterious as Gray, whom we know from the beginning and about whom perhaps nothing has ever been casual.
