Overwatch 2 is doing a Cowboy Bebop anime collaboration
Blizzard has started to tease a new anime collaboration to take place during Overwatch’s Season 9, this time with a classic series: Cowboy Bebop.
After the enormous success of its previous crossover with the world of anime (specifically with One Punch Man), Overwatch is betting once again on nostalgia to bring players a new collaboration from japanese animation: Cowboy Bebop is coming to the Blizzard shooter.
Honestly pretty ad-hoc already, what with the cybernetic enhancements, bio-engineered smart animals, and outlaws in futuristic shootouts, this new collaboration was teased at the end of the official trailer for Season 8 of Overwatch, titled “Champions”. At the very end of the trailer you can hear the telltale bass riffs from the Cowboy Bebop show, “Tank!”. The camera cuts to a jukebox in the Route 66 map, and a coin is put into it, with the trumpets from the anime intro explode all their recognizable glory. Take a look (the tease happens at 2:25):
What will the Overwatch/Cowboy Bebop collaboration include?
So far, Blizzard has given no details about what to expect from this new event. When the One Punch Man event happened, we only got a couple of special skins, with the most notable ones being Doomfist’s Saitama suit, and of course, newcomer Kiriko dressed up as the Terrible Tornado herself, Tatsumaki.
It would be safe to assume that this time we’ll get something similar. As Cassidy (the resident cyber-cowboy of the game) is highlighted through the tease, it’s very probable that he’ll be the one transformed into Spike when the crossover happens. Who else could get a special skin?
