Overwatch to return to classic 6v6 mode, but only for a few weeks
It’s time to play like it’s 2016.
This weekend, but 10 years ago, Blizzard announced its first original IP in a long time. Overwatch, a first-person team-based shooter, was revealed to the surprise of those in attendance. Two years later, the game launched not only on PC, but also on consoles, and took home the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards. A few years ago, the game evolved into its second version, with changes and modes that completely changed the game’s original setting. After several comments from the development team, it was announced today that Overwatch will get a classic mode, but it will only be available for a limited time.
The original Overwatch is back... sort of
The game mode will be available tomorrow, November 12, 2024, through December 2. Promising a nostalgic experience - “taking heroes, players, and the game back to moments in the game’s history for limited time events” - Overwatch: Classic brings back the original heroes’ abilities, as well as several maps, as they were played in version 1.0 from May 2016. You’ll also be able to flex with one, two, or even six tanks to form your frontline defense, plant multiple turrets on the payload, and constantly boop or hook your opponents into the Ilios well,” the game’s official blog reads.
Another interesting detail of this mode is that it restores the original classes, which divided the attack and defense characters as the game was originally presented, before it was transformed into Attack, Tank, and Support. In addition, this mode will only allow the use of the game’s classic skins, so if you’ve been playing for a while, it’s time to dust off your best outfits. In addition, the return of classic maps such as Hanamura, Temple of Anubis, Volskaya Industries, etc. will be good news for fans and followers of the game who have not visited these scenarios for years.
For those expecting this to be a permanent game mode, Blizzard has only mentioned that “while we’re not planning for this to be a single event, we will be measuring player response” to see if it will return.
