Palworld is 2024’s first virally successful game, with incredible concurrent player numbers on Steam
Palworld has become the first huge hit of the year, surpassed only by three undefeatable titles. But such is the power of mixing Monster-catching with survival and guns.
We already have the first viral phenomenon of the year: Palworld. We don’t even have to take into account the thousands of players who will be able to enjoy it through the Xbox Game Pass catalog, but simply its numbers on Steam, which are spectacular already on its first day on the market. In fact, this survival game with creature-catching just came out today, Friday, January 19, and already has huge numbers of players.
The “Pokémon with Guns” game starts strong
At the time of writing, over 1,000,000 players bought the game on Steam even though the title was released on Early Access. Nevertheless, these numbers are only growing, and it is almost certain that by the time you read these lines, Palworld will already exceed its peak of simultaneous players on Steam, which as of now is exactly 310,761. To give us an idea, it is only surpassed by the three titans that usually lead this list, that is: Counter Strike 2, DOTA 2 and PUBG: Battlegrounds.
We insist that these figures do not include players Game Pass, both on Xbox and on PC, which means we should add many thousands more players. It is a success that was foretold, since on Wednesday, thanks to the streamers who had early access to the game, Palworld gathered a total of no less than 85.000 viewers on Twitch.
Palworld is not only being played a lot, but it is being liked, since for now, with more than 1,000 reviews on Steam, the game has garnered a Very Positive review average. “Most people, myself included, thought this game was going to be a meme. It’s actually insanely detailed, extremely well optimized, and compelling as hell,” says one of the critics. “I am surprised by how well it works both graphically and all the mechanics, how big the world is and the amount of content it has for Early Access,” says another, with this positivity around the game being the norm and not the exception.
Palworld is now available on Xbox Series X/S and PC, forming part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog for both platforms.
