Plants vs Zombies 3 is launching today in certain regions, full release later this year

The legendary Plants vs Zombies series returns today (in some regions) to mobile devices, with PVZ3 getting a global launch later in 2024.

Update:
Plants vs Zombies 3 is launching today in certain regions, full release later this year

It’s been a long time coming, but Plants vs Zombies is finally back from the dead! Plants vs Zombies 3: Welcome to Zomburbia just got a soft launch today in specific regions, with a full release globally planned for later in the year.

As of right now, players in the UK, Netherlands, Australia and Philippines can download and jump into the newest Plants vs Zombies title, which after years of development is the first main entry to the series, which had shifted to the (still very popular and successful) shooter spin-off series for almost a decade already.

PvZ3 once again brings players the classic tower defense gameplay of the original, with a new episodic narrative, base building, and plant growing elements thrown in for good measure. As is expected, the game will present most of the classic plant species like Sunflowers, Pea Shooters, Wall Nuts, and more, as well as those introduced in PvZ2. But we can expect a variety of fresh faces from both sides of the battle.

Full screen

The game is a mobile device exclusive, and as such will be free-to-play with optional in-game purchases. No details have been revealed about how exactly monetization will work with the game. The title will come to both iOS and Android.

Players in the US and other regions that aren’t part of the soft launch will have to wait for an official announcement from developer PopCap Games or publisher EA, but shouldn’t worry about missing out on much, as they’ve also revealed that this version of the game is only a “near-launch ready build”. This means that while it includes most of the content we should expect, it’s still not the complete version of the game and is being used to collect player feedback and tweak the experience before the official launch.
