Konami and PlayStation have just confirmed that the rumored Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake is real, alongside a collection of the original trilogy.

Update:
PlayStation Showcase 2023 confirmed a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake and an MGS Collection

Fans of Metal Gear Solid rejoice! The long rumored remake of the third title in the MGS saga was confirmed during the PlayStation Showcase 2023. Titled Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, the game looks to be a “faithful” remake of the original game authored by Hideo Kojima. And while the brief trailer showcased during the presentation didn’t give away too many details, new information has come to light immediately after.

Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, as detailed in the official website for the game. It was also revealed that the game will not only feature all of the original voice cast, meaning David Hayter might be returning as the voice of Snake after being sidelined by Kojima in the fifth main installment of the series, but will also stay close to the original game in terms of its gameplay, although renewed and reimagined for the modern console environment we’re currently in. Konami also promised the remake will have “unprecedented graphics and immersive sound,” which suggests that this is a full remake and not only a remaster of the original title.

The development team also posted a short message through the game’s official Twitter account, which gives a little more insight into the production of this remake:

“Thank you for always enjoying the “Metal Gear” series,” says the message, translated from the original Japanese. “Currently, the development team is working together to create an environment where you can enjoy the “Metal Gear” stealth action game experience on the latest platforms. One of the most beloved works in the series, “METAL GEAR SOLID 3 SNAKE EATER”, which could be described as the origin of “SNAKE”, has been faithfully reproduced with the story and game design, and evolved into the latest modern graphics.”

The message goes on to talk about how, to close off the series’ 35th anniversary, they’re also releasing the METAL GEAR SOLID: MASTER COLLECTION vol. 1, which includes ports of the original trilogy for modern consoles, and which implies that the rest of the titles in the franchise might be re-released in the future as well.

Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater will be releasing for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at a still undisclosed date. And yes, the Δ in the title is pronounced “Delta”.
