Pokémon TCG Pocket will change its trading system, but you’ll have to wait
The wait for fairer trading in Pokémon TCG Pocket will be a long one.

After an enthusiastic reception upon its release, Pokémon TCG Pocket has received criticism for its trading system, which players have found to be impractical. In response, the developers have announced a number of changes to improve the experience.
Goodbye Tokens, hello Stardust: The future of trading in Pokémon TCG Pocket
The most significant change will be the elimination of Trade Tokens, the currency that players had to obtain by sacrificing cards in order to trade. Instead, Shinedust will be required to trade three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star cards.
The developers explained that Stardust is awarded automatically when you open a booster pack and get a card that is already in the Card Dex. Since this resource is also used to unlock Flair, they are looking into increasing the amount awarded to make trading easier. In addition, players will be able to share the cards they want to trade in advance.
- Trade tokens will be completely removed and players will no longer need to exchange cards to obtain the currency required for trading.
- Instead, trading cards of three-diamond, four-diamond, and one-star rarity will now require shinedust.
- When you open a booster pack, shinedust will be automatically earned if you obtain a card that is already registered in your Card Dex.
- Currently, shinedust is also required to obtain flair, so we are looking into increasing the amount offered since it will also be needed for trading. Altogether, this change should allow you to trade more cards than you could before this update.
- Trade tokens you currently own can be converted to shinedust when the item is removed from the game.
- There are no changes in how one-diamond and two-diamond rarity cards are traded.
- Further, a new feature will be included to allow players to share the cards they’re interested in trading in advance.
The biggest drawback is that these improvements won’t arrive until late fall 2025, so players will have to wait more than a year to enjoy this revamped system.
Since its launch last October, Pokémon TCG Pocket has surpassed 100 million downloads. With these changes on the horizon, the game is looking to improve the user experience and continue to grow within the community.
