Prime Video

Prime Video charges to remove ads, starting in the U.S.

Ads are coming to Amazon’s streaming platform in 2024.

Prime Video joins the trend of adding ads and charging extra if we want to remove them. An advertising plan that companies like Disney+ and Netflix already have, albeit in a different way, by charging less for the subscription if we accept their plan with ads.

What will Prime Video do? As the company had already announced at the end of September this year, Amazon’s streaming platform is clear, and they emphasize in the press release that has reached its members that nothing will change, not even the current price of the service, but curiously a new option without ads will be offered for an extra $2.99 per month. For now, the service will start in the United States on January 28, and we will have to see how long it takes to reach the rest of the world, but unlike other platforms, ads will reach all subscribers, and if you do not want them, you will have to pay extra. Of course, as Prime Video says: “There is no change in the current price of your Prime subscription.”

Prime Video 2024 Announcements

Prime Video has sent an email to its members with a statement highlighting the following: “Dear Prime member, we are writing to you today about an upcoming change to your Prime Video experience. Starting January 29, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option for an additional $2.99 per month”
