Problems with your Nintendo Switch 2? This popular accessory is causing Joy-Con disconnects

The Dbrand Killswitch 2 grip for Switch 2 is interfering with the console’s new magnetic Joy-Con connections, but help is on the way.

Update:

The Nintendo Switch 2 introduced magnetic mounting for its Joy-Con 2 controllers, promising quick swaps and a sleeker design. Yet one of the most popular third-party accessories, the Dbrand Killswitch 2 case, has led to frequent controller disconnects, sparking user complaints and a swift response from its maker.

What is the Dbrand Killswitch 2?

Dbrand’s Killswitch 2 grip is designed to improve ergonomics when playing in handheld mode. It snaps onto the console shell, providing textured side panels and extended handles for a more comfortable hold. Since its release, it’s become a go-to add-on for players who want extra stability—until the reports started rolling in.

Unlike the original Switch, the Switch 2 Joy-Con 2 attach magnetically to the console rather than via locking rails. That system relies on a small air gap and precise tolerances to prevent accidental detachment. According to multiple user posts, the Killswitch 2’s retaining lip impinges on that gap. When the console is held nearly parallel to the ground—supported by a single Joy-Con—pressure causes the lip to push the controller away from its magnetic contacts, leading to disconnection.

Dbrand’s response and fix timeline

After facing criticism online, Dbrand acknowledged the issue in a detailed Reddit announcement. The company clarified that disconnects only occur under specific grip angles and that they designed the lip for superior hold without adhesive. To address the problem, Dbrand is offering free replacement grips with a thinner retaining lip to all Killswitch 2 owners. Those replacements have been mass-produced, with customer notifications underway. Additionally, Dbrand is testing an even more refined design in a trial run set for July 10, and will share production updates thereafter.

Beyond Joy-Con: docking woes

Some users also reported trouble docking the Switch 2 while the Killswitch 2 case was installed. Dbrand accepts responsibility for those “lemons” as well, inviting affected customers to request replacements via email.

If you’re experiencing random Joy-Con disconnects, consider temporarily removing the Dbrand case or supporting the console base with your fingers to reduce strain on the magnetic connectors. Keep an eye on your inbox for Dbrand’s replacement offer, and check Reddit or the Dbrand website for the July 10 design update.
