PS6 is a priority for PlayStation and Sony admits that cloud gaming is “an additional option”
CEO Hideaki Nishino sees downsides to streaming gaming versus the traditional model.

PS5 is about to celebrate 5 years since its arrival to the market. Over the years there has been a lot of speculation about the future of the consoles, but PlayStation is confident in its next platform. Speaking to VGC, Sony Interactive Entertainment president Hideaki Nishino made it clear that PS6 is a priority for the company.
Despite Nishino’s admission that cloud gaming is an opportunity, the executive thinks users still prefer native machines. “Cloud streaming is progressing well from a technical standpoint, as we have demonstrated with [our] offerings,” he said. “But end-to-end network stability is not in our control,” Nishino said. “And the higher cost per playtime compared to the traditional console model remains a challenge.”

Gamers prefer consoles
Nishino added: “Cloud gaming” gamers “an additional option” to enjoy content. All in all, the executive stressed “that the majority of players continue to want” a playable experience that runs locally, without relying on network conditions. “PS5 and PS5 Pro have validated this thesis, I believe.”
The Japanese executive pointed out that they have a powerful ecosystem built around the PS4 and PS5 generations, “So naturally, therefore, there’s a huge interest in our next generation console strategy.”
According to Nishino’s words, he can’t say anything yet, “but the future of the platform” is a priority. “We are committed to exploring a new and enhanced way for players to engage with our content and services.”
