Quentin Tarantino’s love letter to classic kung fu cinema returns in a “Whole Bloody Affair”
Tarantino’s epic revenge saga is restored to its original vision.

Fans of Quentin Tarantino’s iconic cinematic universe are about to witness a landmark event. For the first time, the complete, unified version of his martial arts epic, Kill Bill, is coming to theaters. Lionsgate announced that Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair will be released nationwide on December 5, 2025, offering audiences the definitive experience of the legendary revenge story as originally envisioned by its director.
The way the movie was meant to be watched
The two-volume structure that audiences have known since the original releases—Kill Bill Vol. 1 in 2003 and Vol. 2 in 2004—will be dismantled for this special theatrical event. Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair blends the two films, presenting a continuous, fluid narrative, allowing The Bride’s journey to feel like the single, cohesive film it was always intended to be. Along with it, this version adds a never-before-seen, seven-and-a-half-minute animated sequence. To truly honor Tarantino’s call for a grand theatrical experience, Lionsgate confirmed that select presentations will be screened in both 70 mm and 35 mm formats.
Tarantino himself commented, “I wrote and directed it as one movie — and I’m so glad to give the fans the chance to see it as one movie. The best way to see Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is at a movie theater in glorious 70mm or 35mm. Blood and guts on a big screen in all its glory!”
Kill Bill Vol. 1 came out 22 years ago, on October 10, 2003, and is considered one of Tarantino’s best films. This love letter to the kung fu movies of old sees Uma Thurman’s The Bride go on a bloody revenge mission that’s packed with iconic lines, Hattori Hanzō swords, and gory decapitations. Vol. 2 followed in 2004 and resolved The Bride’s story with as much hard-hitting dialogue as action.
The film, which remains a landmark “love letter” to classic kung fu cinema, follows Uma Thurman’s character, The Bride, on her bloody mission of vengeance, utilizing Hattori Hanzō swords… In the words of the late Michael Madsen as Bill’s brother, Budd: “That woman deserves her revenge and we deserve to die.”
