Resident Evil Requiem will feature a combat system similar to The Last of Us and vehicles
Insider Dusk Gollem insists that Leon is one of the game’s protagonists.

Gamescom’s Opening Night Live will be the stage on which Resident Evil Requiem unveils more news. There are only a few days left, but there’s nothing like a good leak before the big reveal. Dusk Gollem, a regular leaker for Silent Hill and Resident Evil, has given away some details. According to his information, the combat system is reminiscent of The Last of Us Part 2.
Although Capcom has justified Leon’s absence as the protagonist, Dusk Gollem continues to maintain his presence. “They’ve been working hard to achieve having good performance on open-level designed areas like Raccoon City,” to which we must add a “vehicle to travel” through those areas. “Combat with Leon has seen huge innovations, honestly some Last of Us Part 2-isms, but also its own innovations.”
(1/2) For what it's worth, and I think this will become even clearer as more play it, but those who've played it the difference between watching it & playing it makes a huge difference. It's fine to watch, but apparently feels very good to play.

“Right now officially they’ve talked about as you mentioned the ability to switch between first & third person on the fly,” which is almost like “designing two different games alongside each other.” The insider has assured us that they have had to rework the tools. They have also introduced a new lighting and shadow engine, as well as the hair improvements they have applied in Pragmata.
The enemy that pursues the protagonist is powered by a dynamic AI system that has been “done to behave uniquely & intelligently on the fly.” Capcom has worked hard to design more environmental physics systems, not to mention the interactivity in the segments featuring Grace. The interplay between light and darkness will also be important.
Resident Evil Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026.
