Resident Evil 9: Requiem might feature three playable characters, including a fan-favorite hero
Resident Evil 9: Requiem could bring back a beloved hero.

Capcom’s upcoming survival horror entry, Resident Evil 9: Requiem, is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious titles in the franchise. Leaks and insider reports suggest that players will control three different characters, potentially bringing back one of the series’ most beloved protagonists.
Who could be the playable characters?
While Capcom has yet to confirm the full roster, early leaks indicate that Leon S. Kennedy will make his return as a playable character. Despite his absence from the reveal trailer, sources claim that Leon will take center stage in a critical part of the story.
Alongside Leon, two other characters are expected to be playable:
- Grace Ashcroft – A new protagonist working for the FBI, investigating a mysterious hotel linked to her mother’s death.
- Alyssa Ashcroft – Grace’s mother, appearing in flashback sequences that may be fully interactive.
Alyssa is a familiar name for longtime Resident Evil fans, as she was featured in Resident Evil Outbreak—a cult classic known for its cooperative gameplay. If she plays a major role in Requiem, this would mark her first return to the franchise in nearly two decades.
Gameplay shifts: A hybrid approach
Unlike Resident Evil Village, which leaned heavily into first-person horror, Requiem will reportedly allow players to switch between first-person and third-person views at will. This hybrid approach is meant to cater to different playstyles, ensuring that players who prefer traditional third-person horror can enjoy the experience just as much as those accustomed to immersive first-person gameplay.
Additional gameplay details include:
- Dark, atmospheric environments reminiscent of classic survival horror.
- Limited healing options, with first-aid sprays supposedly being removed.
- A larger emphasis on investigative mechanics, aligning with Grace’s FBI background.
Resident Evil 9 or Resident Evil Requiem! I’m still hopeful Leon will somehow get involved. This is the first trailer- it only focused on the main character, I’m sure they’ll introduce other characters as we get closer to the release date!

Capcom is expected to reveal more details at Gamescom in August, where Resident Evil 9: Requiem will reportedly be playable for the first time. With a release date set for February 27, 2026, fans won’t have to wait much longer to dive into the next chapter of the franchise.
