Resident Evil’s new trailer finally connects the movie to the games

The latest footage teases Raccoon City, iconic weapons, and new clues about Zach Cregger’s horror reboot.

Update:

September is approaching, and with it comes the release of the new ‘Resident Evil’ movie, directed by renowned horror filmmaker Zach Cregger. And although the first trailer didn’t show a direct connection to what we’ve seen in the video games, those connections are starting to emerge in the new trailer, which you can watch below:

On the Way to Raccoon City

The film from the director of ‘Barbarian’ and ‘Weapons’ leaves us, once again, with a big question after watching its new trailer: What on earth is that multi-armed creature? The video reuses parts of the first trailer and expands on it with several highly tense moments in which the protagonist—a medical courier named Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, tasked with delivering an urgent package to an isolated hospital—tries to survive the onslaught of zombie hordes.

Although it’s still a movie that doesn’t feature characters like Leon Kennedy or Chris Redfield, it’s starting to show some interesting connections to the games. The weapons, the typewriter, and—at the end of the trailer—the mention that the next installment takes place in Raccoon City (and comes with double the pay). Although there are some details that might already be anachronistic compared to what happened in 1998—since, according to the director, the film’s events take place in parallel with those of Resident Evil 2—can we overlook them in the hope that it will be a good Resident Evil movie?
