Rick and Morty Season 7 to release “pretty dang soon”, according to producer
The producers of Rick and Morty revealed new details about the seventh season, including the fact that it’ll arrive “pretty dang soon.”
Revealed during their panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, the producers of Rick and Morty announced that season 7 of the legendary animated show will release “pretty dang soon,” as well as teasing even more details of the upcoming season.
While they didn’t reveal a specific release date, producer Steve Levy teased that the show is almost back and that they’ve already written the entirety of season 8 with season 9 partially finished. As for what to expect when the series returns, a clip featuring a cold open that shows the return of the Numbericons and Water-T was played during the panel.
“Bird Person, Squanchy... Gene... Rick’s favorite friend... all of your favorites... Gearhead... It wouldn’t be the full crew without Mr. Poopy Butthole. So there’s a lot to look forward to this season, and I promise that Squanchy will Squanch again,” teased Levy, confirming that the premiere episode will be going all out from the beginning.
Rick and Morty will continue without creator Justin Roiland
The producer also touched on the topic of the show’s recastings, after series co-creator Justin Roiland was fired from Adult Swim due to accusations of abuse and violence. “We are closing in on the end of our process of the recast,” said Levy. “It’s going to be great… I’m thoroughly impressed… That’s the thing I don’t want to be overshadowed.”
As Roiland did many voices for characters on the series, including the two main protagonists of the show, Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, fans were worried about what would happen with the series without the classic voices that they’d grown so used to hearing. It seems like the show is in good hands, but we’ll have to wait and see if the new voice casts manages to fill the shoes left behind by the co-creator. After all, a change this big after so many seasons could prove to be not such a welcome alteration by hardcore fans of Rick and Morty.
