Rick and Morty Season 8: The madness continues in the season’s first episodes
The new season of Rick and Morty kicks off with everything we love.

Season 7 of Rick and Morty was an important test. Despite no longer having one of its co-creators, the series proved that it could hold its own. Having overcome that hurdle, the big question was whether Rick and Morty could continue to offer the same level of quality as before. Fortunately, after watching some of Season 8‘s first episodes, we can confirm that much of what we loved about the series remains.
This review does not contain spoilers for Rick and Morty Season 8 episodes.
For this text we had the opportunity to watch four of the ten episodes that will premiere this season. The episodes, ‘Summer of All Fears‘, ‘The Rick, The Mort & The Ugly‘, ‘The Last Temptation of Jerry’ and ‘Cryo Mort a Rickver’ continue with the differences essences that we have had throughout the seasons, not leaving behind the series’ signature blend of humor and intelligence.
Independent episodes, but faithful to the spirit of the series
What can we expect from these episodes? A little bit of everything: from the traumas faced by Morty and Summer because of a Rick invention that gets out of control, to a very peculiar Easter adventure that could only happen to Jerry. We also have clues as to what happened to some of the Ricks and Mortys from the missing Citadel, and of course, the classic traversals that take us through the moral gray areas to which the series has already accustomed us.
Each episode boasts its own particular charm and humor. The series’s signature style is maintained, and, unlike in our review of last season, I don’t detect a central theme among the episodes. They feel much freer, allowing for exploration of new territory. Even without having seen the season, the episodes feel freer. There isn’t a strong connection except to 'The Rick, The Mort & The Ugly,’ the only episode in this selection with a connection to the “main arc.”
Rick and Morty season 8 feels snappy, fun and lighthearted. It feels very much like it’s playing it safe, and at least in this first half, the episodes don’t go for complex narrative structures, but that doesn’t mean they lose the detail that has always characterized the series. The focus on ideas and humor remains intact, and that’s just what we want.
The wait is almost over. Season 8 of Rick and Morty will premiere on Adult Swim in the United States next Sunday, May 25.
