‘Rick and Morty’s’ President Curtis gets his own animated spinoff starring Keith David
Adult Swim unveils new sci-fi comedy at SDCC 2025: “It’s more ‘X-Files’ than ‘Doctor Who’.”
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Adult Swim officially announced 'President Curtis’, a new animated spinoff from the 'Rick and Morty’ universe. The show stars Keith David, reprising his fan-favorite role as President Andre Curtis, and is co-created by Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, longtime executive producers of 'Rick and Morty’.
What is President Curtis about?
The series follows Curtis and his eccentric staff as they confront bizarre threats that Rick Sanchez “could never be bothered with,” including:
- Interdimensional diplomacy
- Paranormal investigations
- Unexplained phenomena
- Political chaos across the multiverse
Harmon described the tone as “more 'X-Files’ than 'Doctor Who’,” promising grounded sci-fi with absurd twists. The show was greenlit “even if it didn’t have anything at all to do with 'Rick and Morty’.”

David said the role has always been “a blast to play,” and teased that Curtis will stir up “chaos when Rick isn’t around to steal the spotlight”.
President Curtis has appeared in eight 'Rick and Morty’ episodes since Season 2’s “Get Schwifty,” often clashing with Rick in increasingly surreal scenarios, from turkey transformations to hive-mind approval schemes. Harmon and Siciliano called him “the only person in the multiverse who can go toe-to-toe with Rick and still hold office”.
With no release date yet, fans are already speculating about crossover potential and how Curtis’ solo missions might expand the 'Rick and Morty’ universe.
