‘Rick and Morty’ Season 9 has a release date: “We’ll finally achieve what we’ve always wanted to do with Rick & Morty on television”
The next season will premiere on May 24 and promises to add more madness to the different storylines that have developed throughout the series.
We are getting closer and closer to the premiere of Rick & Morty’s Season 9, and expectations are high. Now, with the statements made by Michael Ouweleen, President of Adult Swim, the bar has been raised even higher.
According to his comments about the upcoming season, fans can expect more of the same “unique humor” and, of course, the continued development of the drama-space-time stories that the show has featured throughout its run. At the same time, Ouweleen is candid in saying that he understands perfectly well that his job is to speak well of the series, but that authenticity must be recognized when it is seen.
“It’s kind of scary what this show unit is doing season over season — just pouring an absurd amount of talent and brilliance into these episodes. From the first frame, you’re going to see great high‑concept insanity with some of the best character writing ever done.”
The creative process behind the new seasons of Rick & Morty
Although the series presents different storylines happening at the same time, Dan Harmon and Scott Marder (showrunner and writer, respectively) took charge of seasons 8, 9, and 10 at the same time, in order to bring some coherence to the otherwise incoherent adventures of Rick Sanchez. In an interview with Polygon, they revealed that they finally “landed” an idea they had wanted to try in film and television but couldn’t figure out how.
In some of the images revealed about the new season, we can see that Rick has time to cause—once again—problems with black holes (no pun intended), get drunk, and at the same time, have questionable quality time with his family. What could be more ambitious than that?
