Ridley Scott still sees a future for Gladiator and is already working on the script for the next installment
Gladiator 2 took nearly 25 years to make, but its third installment will try to avoid that mistake.
Gladiator 2 is one of the most anticipated movies of this year, and with almost a month to go before its release, it seems that it will not be the last time we enter the world of Ridley Scott. All indications are that the Gladiator franchise will continue with a third installment in the future.
Gladiator 3 points to “a very good footprint”
According to an interview with Total Film, Ridley Scott is already working on the script for what will become Gladiator 3, although of course he can’t be expected to give us many details for now. “I’ve already got eight pages. I’ve got the beginning of a very good footprint. If there’s a Gladiator 3, I don’t think you’d ever go back into the arena. But I had to go back into the arena…”
At the moment there are no details, actors or a date when we can see the movie. However, knowing that the director is already working on the script gives us great hope that we will not have to wait another 24 years to return to ancient Rome and follow Scott’s special vision.
What is Gladiator 2′ about?
Set 20 years after the death of Maximus Meridius (father of a murdered son and husband of a murdered wife, who got his revenge in this life and not the next), Gladiator 2′ will take place during the convulsive reign of the Severi in Rome. A family of North African origin with blood on their hands that put an end to the Antonine dynasty (a situation that goes from bad to worse). The protagonist will be Lucius Vero, a child who appeared in the original movie, now grown up and played here by Paul Mescal.
‘Gladiator 2′ will be released worldwide on November 15, 2024 (it was originally scheduled for November 22, but the release date was moved up). Like the original film, which was released nearly 25 years ago, the long-awaited sequel features Ridley Scott at the helm and an all-star cast: Paul Mescal as Lucius, Pedro Pascal as Acacius, Denzel Washington as Macrinus, Connie Nielsen as Lucilla, and Fred Hechinger as Caracalla, among others.
