Riot is reportedly working on a live-action ‘Arcane’ and a shooting date has been set: the wait won’t be too long
Riot Games is planning its first live-action production and is looking at Vietnam as a possible location.
Since its premiere, ’Arcane’ has proven to be an ideal entry point for those unfamiliar with the vast League of Legends universe. And while the series will not be continuing after two successful seasons, this does not mean that Riot Games has stopped expanding its world or presenting new projects.
Riot Games targets Vietnam for filming
In the middle of last year, Riot announced that its TV and film development would be split into two studios: one focused on animation and the other on live-action productions. Now, according to a publication on Facebook from Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, representatives from Riot Games visited the country last month to discuss a new film project.
Although Riot Games has not confirmed any specific details, rumors suggest that the studio is interested in filming in the Cát Bà archipelago, located in northern Vietnam. Characterized by steep cliffs, deep waters, and a maritime atmosphere, this area would fit perfectly with the aesthetic of Bilgewater, the infamous port city in League of Legends. In game lore, Bilgewater is a haven for pirates and home to iconic champions such as Gangplank, Tahm Kench, and Miss Fortune.
There is speculation that filming could begin in late 2025, although there has been no official confirmation of the plot or characters involved.
While ‘Arcane’ has been a critical and marketing success, there is no concrete evidence that its impact has significantly affected the number of League of Legends players. In addition, the high production costs of the series could be a deciding factor for this new live-action project. For now, we can only wait for more information on the development of this ambitious bet by Riot Games in the world of cinema and television.
