Roblox finally announces new protective restrictions in favor of players under 13 years old
Some extremely needed safety features have finally made their way to Roblox after years of child exploitation and abuse.
One of the most popular video games in the world is Roblox, an online game that has a gigantic community of players and that has been in the eye of the hurricane in recent years for various issues. Now, the company has announced restrictions to protect minors through an email that The Verge has shared.
Roblox has reported that from now on all minors under 13 years of age will need parental permission to access the game’s chat functions. In addition, children under 9 years of age will require permission to play experiences classified by moderate maturity level, which may sometimes include moderate violence or vulgar humor. These limitations will be lifted automatically as these children reach the age recommended by the title.
Roblox and control and limitation in a game where everything is possible
Along with these restrictions, Roblox has also announced a new type of account for parents that can be linked to their children and will allow them to update the parental permissions on their device while obtaining information about what their child has done. Roblox Corporation through Juliet Chaitin-Lefcourt highlights in The Verge that “The updates that were shared via email are part of Roblox’s commitment to making the platform one of the safest online environments for our users, particularly the youngest users,”
Necessary restrictions in a game in which anything is possible and that over the years has received criticism of all kinds. This 2024, Bloomberg reported on the arrest by the United States legal system of at least 24 people since 2018, the reason for these arrests was that they had kidnapped or abused victims they met on Roblox. Cases of child abuse and a “predator problem” within the game with a multitude of reports that have only grown year after year.
