Rockstar launches Discord channel for GTA 6, which could hint at the return of a missing mechanic

Fans are jumping in to speculate about an image the studio used on its Discord server.

GTA VI

With a game like GTA 6, every detail is analyzed under the microscope and so it was with a seemingly insignificant detail but that has its interest in the context of the saga. In the new Discord server that Rockstar has enabled to focus the conversation about its eagerly awaited title, it has used an art with a potpourri of images and logos encompassing the company’s entire history, even beyond Grand Theft Auto. So far, so normal, but some fans have noticed a detail that is also in a predominant position: the six quest level stars, the maximum level of capture that can be achieved in the saga and that used to imply the arrival of the military on the scene.

The disappearance of the six stars

This detail is relevant because Grand Theft Auto V abandoned this level of search, in one of those decisions that seem unimportant but then obsess those who follow the franchise closely. The mechanics of the Wanted Level, established in GTA III and turned into an icon of the franchise, is a system that marks the degree of surveillance exercised by law enforcement depending on your dangerousness. With each crime you commit, you can increase your search level, which will increase the number and lethality of the troops against you, as well as your search radius. There are methods to hide and reset, but it is always tempting to sow chaos and see how long you can unleash hell on Earth without getting shot down.

Traditionally, six stars were the maximum quest level in the PlayStation 2 era, with GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas pitting tanks and fighter planes against the protagonist. But with the generational shift, the focus shifted a bit. In GTA IV, there was a sixth star, but it wasn’t the military, it was the FBI, in keeping with a more realistic tone compared to the party madness that San Andreas had become. And with GTA V, the sixth star was dropped right away, triggering a whole investigation to find out what had happened.

The mystery of the missing sixth star has been one of the recurring themes throughout the (many) years that GTA V has been riding the crest of the wave. A lot of research has been done, code has been unearthed that suggests it could have been there, and mods have been made to reproduce the concept, creating entertaining YouTube videos in the process. But the reality is that many fans are looking forward to the return of the six stars in all their glory, with the full might of the army trying to take us down. Will it be back with the sixth installment? Later this year, we will know for sure.
