Ryan Hurst, who plays Kratos in the ‘God of War’ series, has been injured and will be replaced by another actor
The actor suffered a torn bicep and has begun a recovery process that will take months.

An unexpected setback occurred during the filming of ‘God of War,’ the series based on the Sony Santa Monica video game and produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Ryan Hurst, the actor who plays Kratos in the series, suffered a serious injury last June and will need months to recover. Given this situation, the studios have made the difficult decision to recast the role, something that is not common in the industry. Deadline broke the news exclusively.
Hurst suffered a bicep tear while filming ‘God of War,’ an injury that typically takes between 4 and 6 months to heal. However, the role is physically demanding, and full recovery could take up to a full year. That means filming would have to be put on hold until well into 2027. Faced with this prospect, they have decided to cast a new actor, who has not yet been announced, although pre-production will begin in mid-August and filming will resume in October.
The actor, who has already undergone surgery, is in the midst of his recovery, which is the top priority. Ryan Hurst had prepared thoroughly to portray the God of War. His physical transformation came about after much effort, a process that has been cut short by an unfortunate accident.

Four episodes had already been filmed
Ronald D. Moore, showrunner for ‘Battlestar Galactica,’ ‘For All Mankind,‘ and ‘Outlander,’ began filming ‘God of War’ in February. In fact, at the time of the incident, four full episodes had already been filmed. Given the age of Callum Vinson, who plays Kratos’s son, Atreus, it’s unlikely that they’ll be able to reuse much of the footage that’s already been shot.
