Santa Monica Studio

Santa Monica Studio seems to be working on a new God of War, according to various job offers

New job openings in Santa Monica Studio seem to imply that the team is working on two parallel projects, including one that sounds like a new God of War.

Update:
Santa Monica Studio seems to be working on a new God of War, according to various job offers

Santa Monica Studio may be involved in creating a new IP, but that does not mean that they are going to abandon what has been their star franchise over the last two decades. After God of War Ragnarok, everything indicates that the Californian studio will continue with the adventures of Kratos -or Atreus- in upcoming entries to the saga, at least as implied by their latest job offerings.

The creators of God of War have two projects underway

Concretely, these offers for the positions of Senior Combat Designer and Senior Technical Combat Designer require candidates who “are fluent with the combat design choices, systems, mechanics, and enemies in God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022).”

While no details have been revealed so far, it could be that this next project is not a sequel, instead being the long-rumored remakes of the original God of War trilogy. However, combat in those titles is quite different from the last two entries of the series.

Santa Monica Studio has stated that 75% of the 24 vacancies open at the team are for “an exciting new project” or “a game yet to be announced”, making it evident that Cory Barlog’s team is working on two games in parallel. Certain rumors have indicated that the team would be working on a science fiction-themed RPG, but as is the case of the remastered God of War trilogy, there is nothing official for now.

What Barlog did say is that there were “some first-time things” already concrete for their next game, although that still means that whatever this project is, it is still in a very early state. Fortunately, these offers show that the studio has begun to move, so it is to be hoped that it will take us a little less time to learn more about both games.
