Sarah Michelle Gellar is clear about what she wants for the reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer: “bring back everyone who has died”
The new Hulu series will mix new faces with returning characters from the past.
Earlier this year, fans of the classic TV series, Buffy The Vampire Slayer got some incredible news. Hulu is preparing a new series where Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her iconic role as Buffy Summers. And apparently, the lead actress wants the entire cast of characters to be back, including “everyone who has died.”
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Gellar shared the central idea for this new phase of Buffy is to achieve a mix between the past and the future, it will present new faces and challenges. “It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original,” Gellar said. “We will try to find a balance between new and old characters. My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well.”
Death was always an important factor in the original series, but never something that prevented the return of some characters. It’s worth remembering that Buffy Summers herself had several “deaths” throughout the series, and that she had affairs with vampires. So death is not a factor that would prevent the return of some characters.
What will the new series be about?
From what is known about the return of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Gellar will appear in the pilot episode, but she will not be the main character, as she will pass the Slayer baton to new series lead Ryan Kiera Armstrong. However, she will not be far away from the series as she will have a recurring role, and will be the executive producer. For the time being, there are no details of who will be the characters and actors who will return for this new series, nor an approximate premiere date.
