Smart, but without a camera: the new glasses Apple is considering launching to protect people’s privacy

The world of technology continues to advance with inventions that completely transform our daily lives. Some take longer to catch on than others, and smart glasses are one of the products that have been generating the most buzz lately, even though they haven’t yet become widespread among the general public. One of the companies most committed to this technology is Apple, which has placed privacy at the center of its strategy for smart glasses.
A device that has felt the impact of stricter regulations
A Bloomberg report, authored by renowned tech journalist Mark Gurman, notes that “teams developing glasses within Apple’s Vision hardware group and elsewhere in the company see privacy as priority No. 1.” It also highlights that in-house engineers are working on “new hardware and software-related privacy features not available on current products.”
Apple aims to disable recording if the device detects that the indicator light showing the camera is active has been tampered with. In addition, the U.S. company is debating whether to release versions of the glasses without a camera or with a system incapable of capturing photos and video. The glasses, known as the N50, were originally scheduled for 2026 but have been delayed due to development setbacks. Apple plans to unveil them at WWDC 2027 and release them for sale later that same year.
