Sony removed one of the most controversial logos from new PlayStation 5 boxes
PlayStation seems to be changing strategies, starting with the deletion of an icon on their boxes many considered unfounded boasting.
Ever since its launch at the end of 2020, PlayStation 5 has been packaged in boxes that included a most surprising logo: compatibility with 8K resolution. An element that many have since considered false advertising and that until now has not been utilized by any title on the platform. That is why the community has begun to notice these last few days that the new boxes for the PS5 Slim model no longer come with said logo, leaving only those for 4K/120 and HDR. No 8K.
A definitive goodbye to 8K on PlayStation 5?
At the time of the launch of the PS5, Sony assured that its new console was “compatible with 8K screens at the time of launch and, after a future update of the system software, it will be able to generate resolutions up to 8K when the compatible software is available”. A statement that only really mattered as a marketing strategy to attract the buyer’s attention compared to the competition.
However, to this day, PS5 still does not offer 8K video output natively for gaming and only one title, The Touryst, announced that it could be viewed at that resolution through a future update that never came. Now, after almost four years, the first boxes of PS5 without the 8K logo are becoming available through PlayStation Direct, the official PlayStation store.
At the moment there is no official statement from Sony about this surprising decision and everything indicates that the Japanese company has preferred to stop advertising a feature that PS5, at the moment, does not offer. Could said logo return with the rumored PS5 Pro? Of course, it would be the ideal opportunity to start guaranteeing 8K content thanks to its supposed extra power.
