There was a lot of speculation for months, but the mystery can finally be revealed. And wow—all we can say is that many theories, even though they seemed too far-fetched, turned out to be right.

This is the role Sadie Sink plays in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
After months of anticipation, it can now be revealed that Sadie Sink does, in fact, play the mutant Jean Grey. Although she doesn’t appear as such until halfway through the film, her identity isn’t revealed until well into the third act.
If you had Sadie Sink listed as Jean Grey on your bingo card, congratulations—you’ve already won. The actress, best known for ‘Stranger Things,’ appears as one of the original members of the X-Men in the MCU. While we already knew the X-Men would be coming to the MCU following ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ and whatever happens after the showdown with Doctor Doom, this is what finally confirms their arrival. If your friend who knows nothing about Marvel calls you to ask “Are the mutants finally coming back to the big screen?”, just tell them yes.
Who is Jean Grey in Marvel Comics?
Jean Grey made her debut in the pages of the comics, created by legends Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, in The X-Men #1 in September 1963. At that time, Jean went by the codename Marvel Girl and was known for her telekinetic powers, although over time she also developed telepathic abilities, establishing herself as one of the most formidable mutants in the franchise.
Jean Grey’s role in the history of the X-Men is both significant and complex—though that’s par for the course with the X-Men. Her importance within the saga grew exponentially thanks to one of the most celebrated stories in comics: the Phoenix Saga. During that run, published between the late 1970s and early 1980s, Jean comes into contact with the Phoenix Force, a cosmic entity of virtually unlimited power. The transformation turns her into the Phoenix, capable of altering matter, controlling energy on an astronomical scale, and even affecting the balance of the universe. However, that same power ends up partially corrupting her, giving rise to the Dark Phoenix identity. This saga has already been adapted for the big screen twice, in ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ and ‘Dark Phoenix,’ with Jean portrayed by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner, respectively.
