A lot of people enjoyed the second season of ‘Squid Game’ on Netflix this weekend, so it’s safe to say that they were left in suspense after watching the finale. Some intuitively sense where things are going next season, but others have several questions that desperately need to be answered. So here we are to explain the ending of ‘Squid Game 2′ and take a look at what will happen in the series finale with Gi-hun.

‘Squid Game 2′ Finale Explained

Throughout Season 2 of Squid Game, the supervising leader of the games, Hwang In-ho, infiltrates among the participants posing as Player 001 to sway the vote in favor of the Circles team. That is, those who want to continue playing. He also uses this opportunity to gain Gi-hun’s trust, as he knows exactly who he is and what he wants to do.

For several episodes and trials, he seems to be on the side of Gi-hun (456), Jung-bae (432) and the small group of friends they forge with the intention of surviving together and rebelling against the guards to take control and try to storm the command room and stand up to the organizers. In the final part of this second season, when they finally decide to attack and steal the soldiers' firearms, they have the misfortune to run out of ammunition during the shootout that takes place on the stairs leading to the control room.

In this situation the evil Hwang In-ho offers to take an alternative route and kill the guards, but this is all a lie, as he only kills the players in the back and tells Gi-hun over the radio that he is sorry because he has been captured. He then puts on his black suit and mask again to appear in front of Gi-hun, who has no idea who is behind the disguise, and tells him that he is about to learn the price of wanting to be a hero.

Without a second’s hesitation, Hwang In-ho shoots Jung-bae, Gi-hun’s best friend, dead.

What will happen in “Squid Game 3′?

Season 2 ended with the image of Gi-hun mourning Jung-bae’s death as the guards regain control of the situation. Considering Hwang In-ho’s decision not to kill him, all signs point to the surviving players being spared - perhaps there will be some sort of punishment in the form of a prize reduction - and the games will continue, as there are still three trials to overcome.

The big question is what will happen to Gi-hun, who no longer has the support of his inseparable Jung-bae or Hwang In-ho, as he has stopped being a fake participant and returned to his role as an unsuspecting supervisor.

Parallel to the games, Hwang Jun-ho and his team spend the whole second season searching for the location of the secret island of “The Squid Games”. Things get complicated, however, when we find out that the captain of the ship is a traitor who seems to have a special interest in never finding it, so that it becomes clear that he is on the side of the game’s organizers. It should not be forgotten that Hwang Jun-ho, the young policeman, is Hwang In-ho’s younger brother, even though he never told Gi-hun or anyone else. Will he find the island in the last season?

When will ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 premiere on Netflix?

Season 3 is practically finished and it will be the last one, so all the unknowns will be cleared up in it. Luckily, we won’t have to wait too long, as it’s official that it will premiere sometime in 2025, possibly starting this summer.
