‘Star Wars’ confirms the trilogy that will continue the saga beyond ‘Episode 9’

Grogu and Din Djarin haven’t gone anywhere. The protagonists of the Disney+ series will continue their adventures in the movie ‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’, which will mark the return of ‘Star Wars’ to the movie sagas. Beyond this film, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has outlined the future of the saga and revealed that the new trilogy by Simon Kimberg (‘X-Men Apocalypse’) will mark the beginning of the new era of ‘Star Wars’. “It’s the next iteration, the new saga that will take us into the future,” he said.

Kennedy added: “We’re moving fast and furious, it’s been going exceptionally well and we’re working on the script. We’ll probably have something in June. If you remember, Simon worked with us a few years ago on the animated series [‘Star Wars: Rebels’], which was a fantastic collaborative experience. Then he was very busy with ‘X-Men’ and has recently become available again.” Kennedy has assured that they are very excited about what’s to come.

Is it episodes X, XI, and XII?

Insider Jeff Sneider had previously reported that Kimberg was involved in the project and that Lucasfilm had envisioned this trilogy as Episodes X, XI, and XII, although they don’t want to call it that publicly because of the track record with other announced films, which have not been released. Like other feature films they are preparing, this saga will be set after the events of the sequels.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu' opens in theaters on May 22, 2026. It is the first film in the saga since the debut of ‘Rise of Skywalker’ in 2019, as there have been numerous film projects that have been delayed or cancelled. According to Kathleen Kennedy, the next film will be from Shawn Levy, director of ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’, a standalone product that will be set after the sequels and may bring back characters from this trilogy. Later will come the aforementioned trilogy by Simon Kimberg.
