Star Wars Jedi: Survivor physical copies still need a digital download

Respawn Entertainment’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is so big, it seems like physical copies of the game will still require players to download files

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Insert the disc and play. This everyday and simple concept has been forgotten for a long time. Games in physical format are installed on the hard drive and usually need a patch or two to correct errors. In the case of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, everything seems to indicate that it will be mandatory to download something before you’ll be able to play.

A Reddit user (u/NightwingXII) has posted a photo showing the boxes containing the physical edition of the Respawn Entertainment title. The fact is that on the cover, you can find a note that reads “Download required”. Although neither the studio nor Electronic Arts have said anything about it, the message implies that at the very least some of the game’s files will need to be downloaded before buyers can actually play the game.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will need a lot of hard drive space

The new installment of the galactic saga occupies an entire galaxy on your hard drive. The requirements on PC indicate that players will have to make a lot of room, over 155 GB on PC, while on console it’ll depend on the platform. As if it were a light cruiser, the Xbox Series S barely requires 44 GB. On the other hand, those on PS5 and Xbox Series X are more like dreadnaughts, both above the 135 GB mark.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place a few years after the events of Jedi: Fallen Order. After escaping from the Galactic Empire, Cal Kestis continues to fight relentlessly, hoping to harm Palpatine’s regime. The Mantis crew has been separated, so Cal. Cere, Greez, and Merrin have gone their own separate ways.

The game will be released on April 28 for PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
