Star Wars’ Lando Calrissian show will now become a full-fledged movie

Donald Glover’s Lando Calrissian is still going to get his time in the spotlight, but we now know that the project has gone from a series to a feature film.

Great news for fans of Star Wars: the Lando Calrissian project starring Donald Glover has now been reworked to become a movie.

The news was revealed by Stephen Glover, Donald Glover’s brother and co-writer of Lando, during an interview on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast earlier this week. When asked about the series and what was going on with the project, he revealed that “It’s not even a show…the idea right now is to do a movie. Right now, because of the strike its kinds of like telephone all of the information.”

Originally, the Lando Calrissian project had been announced as a Disney+ spinoff series that would follow the version of the character introduced in 2018′s Solo: A Star Wars Story. In said film the smuggler was played by Glover, who interpreted a younger version of the idea Billy Dee Williams presented in the original Star Wars trilogy. While said movie was not exactly well received, it has managed to acquire a bit of a cult-following over the years, enough that fans have been excited for Lando’s comeback since its announcement.

Lando has been in hot water for a while

In April of this year, Donald Glover casted some doubt on the project when he told GQ in an interview that he was “talking about it” with Lucasfilm after years of inactivity. However, fans got a new and more hopeful update in July when it was revealed that the Glover brothers had taken over the writing duties of the project, replacing director Justin Simien.

With the current WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes still happening, negotiations could take longer than anyone would like. But IGN has revealed that their sources confirmed the shift in production for the Star Wars project. As to when exactly filming would start, or even a rough release window for the movie in theaters, that is still a mystery we don’t expect to be resolved anytime soon.
